(Wow... Its been a long time since I wrote ! )
Karte Blanche is what our colleges' fest is called. I was always jealous of my engineering friends who have some 3-4 fests every year. True they might have less to study as compared to us but that doesn't mean we must be deprived of our right to fun and happiness!
We ( 2nd year batch ) have cribbed a lot about our seniors but I would like to give them a lot of credit for initiating the fest preparations and of course coming out with our college magazine 'Krittika'
About 2 weeks back, the senior and our batch boys had a horrible fight where in the seniors insulted and pointed out the disunity and back biting prevalent amongst our students. To prove the seniors wrong we swore to them we would unite our batch and send representatives for each committee - cultural, academic and sports. After tons of fights and arguments and after shedding liters of tears we chose our groups. I was part of the academic committee which was responsible for literary and creativity activities.
As if preparing a fest was not hectic enough, our college management asked to give our juniors a freshers' party before the fest because the juniors are not allowed to attend or take part in the fest until they get their welcome first.
So, keeping in mind how diving the work not only involved everyone but it also made the work easier, we made different committees - games , cultural , anchoring , decoration , head committee. Even though we had only one week to organize everything, the party was successful and well received :)
We conducted the party in our colleges' examination hall - which was surely better than the tiny auditorium our seniors had chosen last year. Our decoration committee did a wonderful job of the place, the games committee made some amazing games and our anchors were very beautiful too ( by the way :D I was one of those anchors ) . Well like every function not everything can go smoothly, we did have our little delays - mainly due to our "chief guest" - our little change of plans and of course lots of back stage arguments. :P All in all, it was a lovely event and it ended with superb dinner and a round of dancing organized by our class DJ!
So now that the Freshers' party was over, we were back to the Annual Function preparation. Being in the academic dept. we had to organize quizzes, elocution, a round of group discussion, rangoli, mehndi, painting and an advertisement event. I don't wanna sound rude but most of the events were organized by our batch. The judgment sheets for each round, the notices about the winners and the timings everything made by us.
I would like to record this incident we ( my friends and I ) went through one day. For the various events a number of items needed to be bought. So our little group went into the city that day at around 3 with about 2500 Rs/- to shop, make exaggerated bills and use little of that money for our hungry stomachs ( none of us had had a single meal that day) . So that's what we did, shopped, made bills and found this small Chinese restaurant and ate an entire 4 course meal. What we forgot was that there was a quiz to be conducted at 6... Our "boss" started calling me. I picked up the phone and was I scared to listen to his fuming voice! I threw my phone over to his friend (yes as if it were a ball of fire!) sitting in front of me in the resto who coolly lied to him saying we were 15 minutes away - in reality we were still in the city and it would take at least 30-45 mins to reach back to the coll! And we continued having our meal. Once our "boss" realized he was lied to, he started calling again... Little late did i realize that maybe he didn't have stationary to conduct the quiz... so i called a friend of mine at the hostel and ordered her to transport all my papers to him. Boy.. was he mad...
[ The same day, I took prizes in shot put (3rd ) and javelin throw (2nd) and I was short listed for Miss Kims - nah.. didn't win there :P ]
So, that way our days continued... waking early in the morn to conduct quizzes and competitions, informing and forcing people to participate and finally enjoying the smooth outcome that was presented.
Our chief attraction was a Treasure Hunt. Yet again our batch did it all.. unfortunately the winning team and their volunteer seemed to have done some mischief - no i am not accusing and i am merely assuming - and part of the route was misplaced and destroyed... I was very disappointed but my senior, junior friends and batch mates all reassured me they had fun. :)
The Cultural events was not my department but we all know there was always an element of partiality there. I'd say the best parts of the 2 days in which the cultural events took place were - Shobha De as Chief Guest, the skit by the juniors, the beautiful voiced singer of the juniors, our batch boys dance, the singers for our Bhutanese juniors and lastly the holi celebration we had at the DJ the last night of the fest!
I wanted to point out how we ( my batch ) seem to be closer to our juniors. Maybe due to all these events or they are just more open. Whatever the reason, I am glad there is no barrier existing as there is between my batch and our seniors...
This over-exhaustion has led me to fall ill. I am stuck with 101 fever and a cold-cough. I hope it goes away soon. But I am sorta glad I am getting an extended holiday and break! : D
